Creating spaces of rest & renewal for peacemakers, justice advocates, and all those seeking restoration in a broken world

“We have to have a way to nurture what is human in us, to feed our ability to go on, to continue working for justice in the world.”

Hi, I'm Vanessa

I’m a spiritual director passionate about creating spaces of rest and renewal for peacemakers, justice advocates, and all who are seeking restoration in a broken world.

I know what it’s like to carry the weight of that calling—to feel responsible for every need, every injustice, every cry for help, longing to make the world better, while quietly growing weary along the way. In the work of pouring ourselves out for others, we often forget that we, too, need spaces to be held, to be restored, and to be reminded that we are not alone.

I believe we do our most faithful, sustainable work not from exhaustion, but from wholeness. And that kind of wholeness begins with making room to slow down, to listen, and to receive. That's why I seek to cultivate spaces of connection, contemplation, and curiosity—spaces where compassion can grow, both for ourselves and for others.

I spent over a decade working in the nonprofit world with Solidarity, equipping Latino immigrant families in under-resourced neighborhoods. I also served as Pastor of Peacemaking & Justice at One Life City Church. Today, in addition to my work as a spiritual director, I also provide operational support and financial management for organizations working toward the common good.

I am a Jesus follower, a stumbling peacemaker, and a recovering perfectionist living in Orange County, California with my husband and our two kids.

Foundational values of this practice

Connection

Our spiritual journey can at times feel like a lonely road, especially when we are experiencing questions, doubt, or burnout. Spiritual direction provides accompaniment on the journey. It is a space where you can share honestly and know that you will always be met with grace and gentleness.

Contemplation

At the heart of spiritual direction is a belief that God is present and active in our lives. God speaks to all of us, but sometimes we need a little help to discern God's voice and movement. Spiritual direction invites you to quiet the noise so you can listen deeply for the truth that leads to wholeness.

Curiosity

There comes a time when certainty loosens its grip, and the path ahead feels less defined. In these moments, you don't need a map or easy answers - you need space to explore. Spiritual direction makes room for holy curiosity—honoring your questions and listening together for the quiet voice within your body, mind, heart, and soul.

Compassion

In the quiet space of spiritual direction, as you are met with grace and gentleness, something begins to soften. Over time, that same compassion takes root within you—spilling over into how you see yourself and how you show up for others.
